Dr. Waseem Ahmad is a nationally recognized neurologist, sleep medicine specialist, and physician leader with over 20 years of experience building and leading comprehensive neuroscience and sleep medicine programs across the United States. Throughout his career, he has combined clinical excellence, administrative leadership, academic teaching, and quality improvement to advance neurological care in both community and regional hospital systems.
Dr. Ahmad has served as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford and practiced neurology at multiple hospital systems across Illinois and Iowa. As an experienced healthcare executive, he has served as Director of Neurosciences, Stroke Director, and Sleep Laboratory Director for several hospitals — developing neuroscience service lines, directing multidisciplinary stroke programs, implementing evidence-based clinical protocols, leading Joint Commission stroke accreditation initiatives, and managing regional sleep medicine programs including a 25-bed sleep center with multiple satellite laboratories.
Clinically, Dr. Ahmad has extensive expertise across the full spectrum of adult neurology — including stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, Parkinson's disease, headache medicine, neuromuscular disorders, cognitive disorders, and sleep medicine. His procedural experience includes EMG/nerve conduction studies, routine and prolonged EEG monitoring, ambulatory EEG, Botox therapy for neurological disorders, occipital nerve blocks, deep brain stimulation (DBS) programming, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) programming, and interpretation of diagnostic sleep studies.
He is deeply committed to physician education, having served as a preceptor for medical students and resident physicians from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford, Des Moines University, and several graduate medical education programs. Dr. Ahmad has also contributed to the advancement of neurological medicine as a sub-investigator in numerous multicenter clinical trials involving epilepsy, migraine, Parkinson's disease, and movement disorders, and has presented at national scientific meetings and grand rounds.
Board certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine, fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi, Dr. Ahmad is recognized for his collaborative leadership style, patient-centered approach, and ability to build high-performing neuroscience programs that improve clinical outcomes while expanding access to specialized care.
